The
Moscow Red Pegije Turmani (Moscovski KrasnoPegije Turmani), often known as the
Moscow Ribbontailed Turmani (Moscovski Lentochnije Turmani) is one of the most
popular and among the most traditional flying pigeon breeds in Western Russia
and bears a close relation to the Rzhevski Turmani (Rzhevski KrasnoPegije
Turmani).
The Moscow Red Pegije is almost identical to the Rzhevski Turmani which is undoubtedly the forerunner of all Turmani breeds in Russia. The Moscow differs from the Rzhev primarily in its head and beak structure. Where as the Rzhev has a medium short beak, the Moscow has a very short, very thick downset beak. In addittion, the Moscow has a very substantial square head with the frontal rising from the beak like a wall. In addittion, where as the Rzhev is always plain headed, the Moscow Red Pegije is commonly shell crested. On occassions, so called "Crested Rzhev" are occassionally seen, but these are really mongrels and traditionally, the Rzhevski Turmani is always plain headed.
